SUMMARY:
The textile chain moves an immense amount of inputs and, as a consequence, produces goods while it also generates waste capable of producing negative impacts on the environment. Among these wastes, textile effluents are the most common and most worrying due to their volume and physical and chemical characteristics. Flocculation is a unity operation that aims to separate materials, widely used to treat water and effluents, but which has some disadvantages, among other effluent treatment techniques, such as the use of salts and polymers containing aluminum and a large generation of sludge. Thus, the objective is to evaluate the use of calcium and surfactant from coconut oil in removing the reactive blue dye 222 from a synthetic effluent by flocculation in a column. Therefore, the effect of the concentration of calcium ions and the surfactant on the removal efficiency will be evaluated. In parallel, the size and charge of the micelles formed during the contact process between the dye and the surfactant will be studied. Another parameter observed will be the concentration of calcium and surfactant after flocculation in order to understand the role of the concentration of both in the process.
