SUMMARY:

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of diverse organic compounds with one or more aromatic rings. Fenant is an HPA consisting of three non-linear aromatic solutions, is the fifth smallest HPA by molecular weight (178.2 g mol − 1) and is insoluble in (1–1.6 gm− 3) organic solvents (Log KOW = 4 of the most common,52 from industrial power plants), being especially large-scale manufactured and refined gas solvents, especially in all refined gas manufactured products and coal refiners. Soil ends up becoming ineffective and hazardous to health due to the high toxicity of some chemicals, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs are included in the European Union's list of priority pollutants (USEPA) due to their carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic and endocrine disrupting properties. Of this, soil washing is a water-based approach that promotes a chemical-based approach as well as separation process to eliminate or transfer soil pollutants into a liquid. The sequence step is often performed using water and solvents to increase the solubility of pollutants and, consequently, efficiently transfer them from the soil to the liquid phase. However, contaminated effluent is generated and must be treated. Therefore, in this study, persulfate solutions are used, as washing liquids. Persulfate was generated electrochemically in an electrochemical flow cell with boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes applying different applied current densities and a concentration of 0.5 M Na2SO4. Taking into account the influence of current density on S2O82- electrosynthesis, the results indicate an increase in persulfate concentration when the current density is increased. The main advantages of the integration of technologies are to avoid the production of consumption and effluents with high contaminating load during the SW process, as well as reducing treatment steps and times.
