Geopressures are associated with the main problems during drilling. Any damage to the formations can compromise the cementing safety and budget. Therefore, alternative solutions are needed to control the pressures during the cement masses displacement, such as changing their density. One way to reduce the masses weight is using microspheres in their composition, and among these, a hollow ceramic microsphere, as it is a by-product of burning coal, has a lower cost, in addition to being environmentally sustainable. Given the above, the objective of this research is to develop light weight well cement, using hollow ceramic microspheres, for application in primary cementation operations in oil wells. The cement will be formulated with densities from 11.5 lb/gal to 12.5 lb/gal. The best formulations will be used in the cement mass development for application in wells with low fracture gradient zones. The technological characterization tests will be performed according to the procedures improved by API RP 10B / SPEC 10A and PROCELAB, 2005. Among them, we can highlight the compressive strength and stability tests. Thus, it is expected to optimize the use of Portland cement, using an industrial waste to partially replace it, as a sustainable and low cost application. Besides, it is awaited that the formulation can be submitted to higher compressive strength, when compared to other cementing masses of the same specific mass.
