RESUMO:

Among the various sources used for fuel production, the most common are fossils such as oil, gas and coal. Thus, the need for the application of new sources arises, as the demand has become greater than the amount of raw material and the use of these fossil fuels has negatively impacted the environment. Biodiesel is considered an alternative source of fuel, composed of alkyl fatty acid esters, which has become attractive in recent years. Industrially, transesterification is the most commonly used route in biodiesel production, which corresponds to the chemical reaction between triglycerides and an alcohol, together with a homogeneous or heterogeneous catalyst, producing biodiesel and glycerol. In this work, the transesterification reaction of soybean oil with methanol will be studied using a heterogeneous catalyst, calcium oxide, synthesized from chicken eggshells. The viability of the addition of a surfactant in this reaction will be evaluated in order to improve the biodisel yield. In addition, it will be studied how the factors reaction time, oil/alcohol molar ratio and catalyst concentration affect the reaction
