TITLE:

Environmental Impact Assessment Method in the production, storage and transport of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia

KEY WORDS:

Renewable energy; Environmental impact assessment; Value chain.

SUMMARY:

The slowdown in global warming depends on technological, economic, social, political, financial and environmental issues. The current energy source is mainly based on fossil fuels, which is one of the main causes of the increase in the planet's temperature. As an alternative to fossil sources, there are renewable energies such as wind, solar, among others. However, both wind and solar are considered intermittent sources of electrical energy generation. Due to this, hydrogen and green ammonia emerge as the main options to complement this intermittency and enable an energy supply system with greater participation from wind and solar sources. However, all economic activities generate environmental impacts and these must be analyzed so that the negatives are mitigated and compensated as well as the positives enhanced in the process. The study aims to develop an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) tool for the production, storage and transport of Hydrogen and Green Ammonia. In the first stage, exploratory theoretical research was carried out and followed by a Systematic Bibliographic Review (RBS). In the second stage, a case study was carried out on the environmental licensing process and the environmental impacts on oil and gas projects in Brazil. In the third stage, conceptual modeling of the impacts on the entire process of production, storage and distribution of Hydrogen and Green Ammonia was carried out. The fourth stage included the structuring and analysis of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) tool. It is expected that the AIA tool can assist environmental agencies and companies in developing this activity in Brazil.
