Renewable energy sources have become increasingly competitive as a result of technological development. Even though there are several benefits associated with these sources, the electricity produced can be affected by meteorological and climatic factors, which eventually leads to a conflict between supply and demand, in other words, intermittent generation. Green Hydrogen (GH2) is the main alternative for renewable energy storage and is considered one of the central pillars for the decarbonization of the economy, since it can be used in several sectors, including energy transport for other continents. This paper has as its objective a proposal of guidelines for green hydrogen development in a country or region. For the study, theoretical research was carried out in order to map the green hydrogen value chain, the market, and the current standards. Furthermore, the case study examines national hydrogen strategies and roadmaps in the selected countries. Finally, a proposal of guidelines was modeled concerning what is required for development of the green hydrogen market. The results indicate that a strategic green hydrogen program and the guidelines in its key areas are needed.
