SUMMARY:

Obesity has been faced by a large part of the world population today. The report of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) showed that in 2016 obesity reached 672 million adults, 124 million children and adolescents (from 5 to 19 years old) and 40 million children in the world. under 5 years old. In Brazil, according to the National Health Survey, conducted by the IBGE and released in October 2020, 60.3% of the adult population is overweight. The problem also affects children and adolescents in full: out of every 3 children and adolescents in Brazil, 1 is overweight. According to a study carried out by the Ministry of Health in 2016, 19.8% of the population of Natal is obese. Obesity in the state capital is above the national average, which is 18.9%. When it comes to overweight, this percentage is even higher: 56.6% of the Brazilian population is overweight. The accessibility of work situations for obese people is of paramount importance to ensure the adaptation of these situations to their characteristics, capabilities and limitations, aiming to improve safety, health, comfort and performance during the execution of their activities. The general objective of this research is to propose policies and guidelines for accessibility of work situations for obese employees of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – UFRN, aiming at the efficiency of their activities, health and occupational safety. The specific objectives are: Assess the compliance of work situations of obese employees at UFRN-Campus Natal, regarding accessibility, in accordance with the technical standard ABNT NBR 9050; Identify and register, in a situated manner, the existing obstacles and barriers in the activity of obese employees that hinder accessibility; Analyze the relationship between contractors and barriers and functional performance and occupational health and safety; Analyze the strategies used by obese employees to mitigate the effects of contractors and barriers present in work situations. It is a qualitative approach research, regarding the nature of the data, exploratory and descriptive, regarding the objectives, survey and case study, regarding the collection procedures, and field, bibliographical and documentary, regarding the sources of information. The survey will be expressed through a mapping (survey) of the profile of obese employees and the characteristics of their work regarding possible barriers and obstacles at UFRN-Campus Natal. The case study will be carried out in a sector of the UFRN-Campus Natal where there is an obese employee performing their functional activity. Therefore, the participatory and situated method of Ergonomic Work Analysis - AET will be adopted, through interactional and observational techniques. The general hypothesis of the research is that the lack of accessibility of work situations for obese employees interferes with their performance, health, comfort and safety. It is expected, at the end of the research, to know the profile of obese employees, the accessibility characteristics of their work situations, the diagnosis and the respective indications for improving the accessibility of the work situation of the case study and the preparation of a set of guidelines for improving the accessibility of work situations involving obese people. This research will contribute to the theoretical and methodological development of Ergonomics applied to the accessibility of work situations involving obese people. From a practical point of view, it will contribute to the adoption of public policies and the implementation of measures to improve accessibility in work situations involving obese people at UFRN and in general, having a positive impact on quality of life at work, safety, the health, comfort and self-esteem of this segment of the population.
