SUMMARY:

The use of renewable energy is one of the most efficient ways to offset and neutralize carbon in the environment, as an alternative to the traditional energy system. In this context, it is a potential alternative to offshore wind energy. However, the wind turbine to be deployed at sea is evolving at an accelerated pace, in terms of power, dimensions and weight. This increase in dimensions and weight brought challenges in the transport and installation of components, since turbines above 5 MW have severe restrictions for road transport. Therefore, support through a port is necessary, as a link between land and sea activities, suitable for the complex activities of development and operation of offshore wind farms, so that in its area it is possible to manufacture large components, as well as support for installation and O&M, also based on sustainability actions, through the concept of green industry port. The objective of the research is to identify the factors and characteristics necessary for a green industrial port to support the offshore wind sector, so that it is not only viable, but also sustainable and that leads to regional development. The research method involves: i) theoretical research through Systematic Literature Review (RBS), ii) field research using case studies with ports of Bremerhaven (Germany), Esbjerg (Denmark) and Hull (United Kingdom), as a way to identify good international port practices and iii) application of the Delphi method to validate the factors and characteristics of a green industry port with experts. The main product of theoretical research was the construction of a conceptual framework. As a result, 71 factors were obtained that describe what is needed for the port infrastructure, classified into six dimensions: physical characteristics, consisting of 14 described factors; port layout, in which 17 characterization factors were listed; port connectivity, in which 7 factors were explored; port operation, with 8 factors; performance optimization, with 14 factors; and governance for sustainability, composed of 11 factors observed. In addition to the factors, port requirements present in technical reports and articles were collected. The case study resulted in the partial validation of the infrastructure factors and characteristics that should be considered in an industrial port supporting the offshore wind sector, through the inter-case analysis of the three ports also performed. Field research is underway to complement the case study and the identified factors, as well as the validation of factors and characteristics of a green industry port, using the Delphi method, is under construction.
