SUMMARY:

Shrimp production in the state of Rio Grande do Norte has been growing in recent years, being a sector of potential growth and technological development that stimulates shrimp farming activities in companies that contribute to increasing their productivity and being more competitive before the Market. The investment in new equipment also concerns the investment in maintenance activities of the same, knowing that for the stages of a productive process to act as expected, it is important to consider the maintenance of the equipment as one of the prime factors for the success of the production, taking in view of the poor management of maintenance results in negative results for the company, in the case of shrimp farming, can even lead to the death of the shrimp and consequently to the paralysis of all production. In view of this assertion, we sought to understand in depth the factors that contribute to a good performance of the maintenance activities in an organization, which made it possible to consider the good management of the stocks as a basis for their success, since the lack or the poor conservation of the components used interfere in the accomplishment of the maintainer activities and consequently in the whole productive process. Thus, the following work seeks to present relevant concepts about the maintenance and management of asset maintenance as well as for logistics and inventory management, linking these concepts to the research developed through visits made in a shrimp industry with the purpose of present, from the elaboration of a manual of good practices of storage, the importance of the inventory management for a well functioning of the activities maintainers of the organization.
