SUMMARY:

Introduction: In view of the growing number of cases that refer to schoolchildren with developmental dyslexia or language development disorder in neuropsychological assessments and the scarcity of studies in the Brazilian scenario to which this theme refers, we propose a study in which the main context points to the various areas in which the assessment can be a competent instrument to favor a quantitative and structural analysis by tracing a cognitive profile of these students that will facilitate the differential diagnosis. Objective: to verify the cognitive functions in students with a diagnostic hypothesis of developmental dyslexia and students with a hypothesis of language development disorder. Method: this is a cross-sectional, observational and quantitative study, composed of elementary school students, aged between 06 and 12 years. Twenty children will participate in this study, consisting of two groups, 10 children with a hypothesis of developmental dyslexia and 10 with a hypothesis of language development disorder. Children diagnosed with other neurodevelopmental disorders, genetic syndromes and hearing loss will be excluded from this study. Standardized neuropsychological tests and batteries for the Brazilian population will be used, as well as interviews with the family. Expected results: it is expected that, with the neuropsychological profile drawn from students, it will help in the differential diagnosis between language development disorder and developmental dyslexia, as well as provide guidance on the best use of the potential of these students.
