KEY WORDS:

Occupational Health, Hearing Loss, Noise-Induced; Occupational Exposure; Health Information Systems.

PAGES: 50
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Fonoaudiologia
SUMMARY:

Introduction: Hearing loss in workers may be related to their occupation, especially when they are exposed to continuous high levels of sound pressure or other risk factors. These hearing problems related to the work process, especially those caused by exposure to noise, are common problems among the Notifications of Work Accidents (CAT) registered in the Social Security. In Brazil it represents 23% of all Notifications. Objective: To know the main work-related hearing problems, their causes, occupations, economic sectors, demographic profile of affected workers and place of occurrence (Units of the Federation), between the years 2018 to 2021. Method: Cross-sectional, retrospective study with secondary database. Data collection was carried out in the public databases of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) and the Information System for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN) between 2018 and 2021. In the INSS Database, information was obtained from notifications related to occupational accidents related to the affected body part described as "Ear (External, Medium, Internal)”. In the SINAN database, exclusive information for notification of “Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL)” was selected. Data for categorical variables were presented as absolute numbers and percentages, and for quantitative variables as average and standard deviations. For the analysis of the association between the outcome variable (hearing problems) and the independent variables (gender, age, causative agent, occupation, and economic sector) the chi-square test was used. Partial results: Between 2018 and 2021, a total of 2440 notifications of work accidents related to "Ear (External, Medium, Internal)" were observed in the INSS, while in SINAN a total of 1462 notifications related to NIHL were observed. In the INSS, the most recurrent injuries were Hearing Loss, the effect of noise on the inner ear and traumas and injuries. In the INSS spreadsheet, it was observed that all notifications were from the North and Northeast of the country, with the states with more notifications being Rondônia and Maranhão; while in SINAN the notifications were predominantly from the Southeast, South and Midwest of the country, with the states with the highest notification being São Paulo, Paraná and Goiás. There was a higher prevalence in men. The analyzes of the occupation performed by the worker and the activity performed by the company were not analyzed until now. Final considerations: So far, the results presented show a greater occurrence of hearing loss caused by alterations in the inner ear related to the effects of noise, trauma, and injuries in notified Brazilian workers.
