SUMMARY:

Introduction: Hospital speech therapy is increasingly expanding, not only in large capitals, but throughout.Brazil.Because of this, speech therapists have sought greater technical and scientific training to support their actions.Objective: To evaluate the characteristics and care process of dysphagic patients at the Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel Hospital in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach conducted through the database of the Rehabilitation sector of the Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel hospital for the period from January 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. The study population will be patients who were admitted to the wards and Intensive Care Units. Data collection will be carried out using a structured form for the acquisition of essential research information, namely: age, diagnosis, date of hospital admission, date of speech therapy admission, place of hospitalization, data from speech therapy evaluation and swallowing dynamics training, type of speech therapy and outcome (conduct).Inferential statistical analysis will be performed, through the association between the dichotomous dependent variable and the independent variables using the chi-square test. From a technical-scientific point of view, this work will assist health professionals in understanding what type of patient and when they should be referred to the speech therapy intervention of patients admitted to the Walfredo Gurgel hospital, a reference in trauma, being able to trace the profile of patients seen by the speech therapy sector.
