RESUMO:

Objective: To validate the Brazilian version of the Parent Report of Children's Abilities-Revised (PARCA-R) for language assessment in preschool children born prematurely. Method: This is an study approved by the research ethics committee (CAAE: 97759718.4.0000.5292). Eligibility criteria included premature birth (<37 weeks of gestational age), age between 18 to 42 months which attended the premature outpatient follow-up extension project. Exclusion criteria included syndromes, genetic, sensory, neurological, auditory or visual alterations and medication use that interfered with memory, attention and concentration. Data collection involved application of the PARCA-R questionnaire with parents for obtaining information about their children's language development. PARCA-R questionnaire is composed by three subscales: nonverbal cognition, vocabulary, and sentence complexity. Language development was assessed using receptive and expressive subscales of the Bayley Scale of Child Development III. Data were statistically analyzed descriptively. Partial Results: Thirty-two preschoolers were evaluated until the end of August, 2019. Participants were most male (53%), born very premature (59%) or with very low weight (40%). Regarding tests, PARCA-R showed an overall average score of 72.7 (SD: 35.40, range 15-142) and an average language score of 50.0 (SD: 31.73, range: 2-110). Language subscale of Bayley III showed an overall average score of 52.0 (13.63, range 30-84), while receptive average score was 24.59 (SD: 6.46, range 15-39) and expressive was 27.50 (SD: 7.39, range 15-45).
