SUMMARY:

Evaluating patients with chronic wounds – nowadays referred to as complex wounds – needs a carefull outlook from health professionals, particularly the nursing team, endeavoring to minimize the wounds repercussions. Therefore, it is necessary to resort to educational strategies that support safe and effective wound management. Neither nurses nor nursing technicians know in depth the issue, for this reason, the healing process is prolonged and more expensive, the wound has a higher risk of infection and hospital bed availability is lower. Objective: Improve complex wounds care provided by nursing professionals. Methods: This thesis is a qualitative research, specifically a Yin case study. It will be conducted at Hospital Universitário do Rio Grande do Norte during 2022. The population base is composed by the nursing staff that assist hospitalized wounded patient. Additionally, the study will be preceded by hospital’s consent and research ethics committee approval. Participants will be required to sign an Informed Consent Form, according to ethical commandments from Resolução nº 466/2012 by the Conselho Nacional de Saúde. Data collection will occur per focal group and semistructured interview. Furthermore, data review will be established through Bardin’s contente analysis. Expected results: to design a capacitation course on complex wounds treatment that decreases medical care fragmentation and expedites patient recovery. The technological product will also operate as a teaching tool to undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students.
