SUMMARY:

This study aims to verify the importance of a Personal Data Protection Policy in the context of an applied research project, using the “Syphilis No” Project  as a case study. Although vast amounts of personal data are processed under the "Syphilis No" Project, which is why it is necessary to implement strategies aimed at the protection of such data, it was found that there is no Personal Data Protection Policy instituted. The proposal of this work is to fill this gap, and, as such, issues related to the processing of personal data in the scope of the research project applied will be addressed, as well as the importance of implementing strategies and policies for the protection of personal data in this situation. As methodological procedures, the bibliographic review and mapping of strategies and policies for the protection of personal data implemented by the Laboratory of Technological Innovation in Health - LAIS of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN, which coordinates and executes the Project "Syphilis No, were used.
