SUMMARY:

Patient safety has been discussed among service providers and governments in their different spheres for over a decade. Despite this, patient empowerment, which is defined as an educational process designed to help patients develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes needed to effectively take responsibility for decisions about their health, is still quite incipient in hospital practice. Therefore, there is a growing number of studies showing that patient participation in their care is fundamental to avoid adverse events. Considering the situational diagnosis made in 2019 at the hospital in which the study is intended to be carried out, a total of 749 adverse events were recorded at the institution from 2015 to 2018, with one death (VIGIHOSP, 2016). to consider underreporting. This intervention study is a pioneer in the state of Amazonas and aims to evaluate the impact of patient and caregiver empowerment on the reduction of adverse events in a university hospital, through educational video-guided guidance, as well as generate as products a patient empowerment guidance guide for the prevention of adverse events, as well as an educational video, which will be turned into a course to be made available on the AVASUS Platform. For the development of this study and implementation of the products, some steps are underway, namely: the systematic review of the literature on the subject, the elaboration of the scripts for educational videos, as well as the analysis of official documents of the Ministry of Health about the routines in patient safety in order to identify possible gaps, which will be complemented with the products from this professional master's work. This study, approved by the participating institution's CEP under the opinion number: 3.702.203, will be performed at the Medical Clinic Unit of the referred hospital. Will be enrolled for the study, in a randomized manner, adult patients with hospitalization longer than five days in the medical clinic and their companions. The pre and post intervention evaluations with the video material produced will be performed by a blinded researcher regarding the intervention and the groups that will receive the videos. In addition, the inclusion of a question in the medical record will guide the indirect assessment of knowledge about the prevention of adverse events by patients and / or their companions. As a result, it is expected to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed educational material, launch the course via open access AVASUS and also generate recommendations to the Ebserh Network through a technical-scientific report.
