RESUMO:

There is a system for prevention and control of diseases and diseases in Brazil, called a National Epidemiological Surveillance System (SNVE). This system was formalized by Law No. 6.259 / 1975, which incorporated the set of communicable diseases then considered of major health relevance in the country. At the moment, the aim was to make compatible the operationalization of intervention strategies developed to control certain diseases and health problems.

 

Thus, a surveillance service represents an important tool to control adverse events in health services. In this study, despite endophthalmitis being a rare event and not being compulsorily reported in Brazil, its occurrence has demanded attention from health services and exposed the need for systematic evaluation, thus justifying the imposition of the construction of a specific system with high identification, traceability and control power to improve health care-related prevention and control processes.

 

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) defines endophthalmitis as an infection that occurs inside the eye, causing an inflammatory response due to the presence of invasive and replicating pathogenic microorganisms. It is known that several factors can trigger this type of infection; however, when resulting from surgical procedures, Health-related infection is considered to represent the most feared postoperative complication. Its occurrence may occur in the form of outbreaks, due to the large number of patients seen in the same period.

Therefore, the present study aims to develop an epidemiological surveillance system through the elaboration of a program / application to monitor, investigate, control and prevent endophthalmites in the ophthalmology services of hospitals managed by the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services (EBSERH).

This is a study with technological production methodological, in which a qualitative approach will be applied. The development of this study is expected to achieve the standardization of a high specificity Epidemiological Surveillance System facilitating the elaboration of a database that can be used for local estimates, monitoring, control and prevention of endophthalmites. Consequently strengthen the local infection control and epidemiological service.
