SUMMARY:

With recent technological evolution and social transformations, it is necessary to rethink pedagogical practice in order to insert digital technological resources into methodological practices, since school community takes and uses digital devices within this environment. Brazilian education guiding documents, such as the National Common Curricular Base and the National Curricular Parameters for Secondary Education, recommend exploring interdisciplinary connections between knowledge of curricular components, and also development of skills and abilities to use digital world in a critical, reflective and responsible way. In this context, smartphones presence in school environment represents a possibility for mobile learning educational strategy, in which learning can take place in classroom and anywhere else. Smartphone applications can provide resources such as images, multimedia, interactive and three-dimensional simulations that can promote learning. When studying Biology in High School, Cytology is a content that stands out due to learning difficulties, mainly involving students' abstract thinking in complex reasoning. This work proposes to explore mobile learning based on Ausubel's Meaningful Learning theory. Its objective is to analyze technical and pedagogical aspects of smartphone applications for the interdisciplinary study of Biology in High School. To this end, a descriptive exploratory research was carried out with qualitative and quantitative data analysis organized in four stages. In the first stage, documentary research was carried out in which technical (language, number of downloads, offline or online operation, storage size, release and update dates) and pedagogical (thematic unit, competence, skills, interdisciplinary approach, general content, specific content, pedagogical resources and accessories) aspects of Android smartphone applications available on the Play Store in the second quarter of 2022 were analyzed. The selected 371 applications presented a diversity of aspects covered, but the majority focused on a few of them. In the second stage, an analysis of content and interface of the 26 previously found applications in Portuguese is being carried out, which can help the study of Cytology in High School. This analysis is considering characteristics of the didactic content, cognitive aspects and usability (ease of learning to use) of the applications, aiming to identify positive points, opportunities for improvement and gaps that can be explored in the development of a new application. In the third stage, the prototype of an application will be developed for Cytology study in High School in an interdisciplinary proposal with Chemistry. In the fourth and final stage, content, cognition and usability aspects of the developed prototype will be evaluated with the participation of teachers. It is expected that the application proposed in this work will provide better conditions for students to have meaningful learning.
