SUMMARY:

Distance Education is still marked by the use of traditional teaching methods, a virtual learning environment with programmed instruction that does not meet the 4C's of education, which comprise the four essential skills of the 21st century (critical thinking; collaboration; communication and creativity). The prevalence of activities represented by reading texts, question forums, individual activities and quizzes that prioritize only the verification of content, result in massive, repetitive activities that do not promote practical, reflective learning that is contextualized with the reality of professional practice. Maintaining these practices makes us reflect on the development of the skills needed by future administrators. From this perspective, the active methodology of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) can enable immersion in the context of an administrator's work, by solving problems inherent in the organizational environment. With this in mind, this research aims to contribute to the problem by pointing to the use of PBL as an efficient alternative for maximizing student learning. Thus, the research aims to investigate how PBL can contribute to the initial training of undergraduate students on the distance learning administration course, with regard to the development of skills related to communication and collaboration. The overall aim of the research is to analyze the contributions and challenges of Problem-Based Learning in the development of skills related to communication and collaboration in distance learning administration students. In order to pursue this general objective, the following specific objectives are outlined: a) Plan the conduct of an distance education administration course that can be enhanced with PBL in the virtual environment; b) Mediate the conduct of an distance education administration course in the virtual environment; c) Analyze the participation and delivery of students in an distance education administration course in the virtual environment. The research is of a qualitative approach, of an applied nature, with exploratory and descriptive research objectives, with nuances of action research. Data collection includes direct observation of the forums and proposed activities, questionnaires and online interviews with focus groups. Data will be processed using the content analysis technique. The proposal will be developed in a virtual learning environment with undergraduate Public Administration students at UFRN. The teaching sequences developed, with all the actions implemented through PBL, will be presented in a teaching guide. It is hoped that the research will contribute positively to the learning of distance education administration students, strengthening their problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills necessary for the exercise of their profession, as well as enabling innovation in teaching practices by teachers, based on the application of the PBL methodology.
