SUMMARY:

Teaching Computational Thinking to children has been highlighted as an important activity to be inserted in the basic education curriculum in several countries around the world. In Brazil, this trend is still in its early stage, since the emphasis on teaching based on methods that prioritize the development of critical thinking and the ability to solve problems still presents itself as a difficulty to be overcome in the teaching and learning process. Although it’s be a challenge, it’s necessary for the teaching of Computational Thinking to be inserted into the formal curriculum of Brazilian basic education, as it proposes a new problem-solving culture aimed at the development of fundamental skills and competences for professionals of the future, regardless of the area of activity. Therefore, this work aims to develop and validate a didactic-pedagogical model to promote the teaching of Computational Thinking in the Initial Years of Elementary School using Unplugged Computing. The research will have a qualitative character, based on action research and will be carried out with students from a 5th year class of a public school in the municipality of Parnamirim-RN, which works in the morning and afternoon shifts, at the Elementary School level, in which the researcher acts as a multipurpose teacher. The work is part of the context of the Norte-rio-grandense Program of Computational Thinking (Pensa RN), in which the researcher had the experience of participating both as a course participant and as a trainer, which made it possible to have two different views in relation to the participants and activities put into practice. With the accomplishment of the research, it’s expected that a new culture of problem solving will be introduced in the educational practices of the classroom in Elementary School, aiming to provide to the student the development of competences and cognitive skills, intra and interpersonal that are essential for meet the needs of society in the 21st century. This favors students to improve their logical reasoning ability, creativity and critical thinking, in addition to developing programming skills and relating them to the different thematic units of the different areas of knowledge they experience in the classroom.
