SUMMARY:

Providing an integral education that enables young people to have subsidies to deal with the problems of the real world and to live in society in a critical and active way is a great challenge for education. The Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) brings in its structure skills and abilities required of Brazilian students. However, for the desired changes to take effect, it is necessary that teaching and learning models also undergo transformations, and that the physical and curricular spaces of schools are prepared for the development of practices that effectively contribute to the education of students, preparing them for the world in which they live. However, many Brazilian teachers are still unaware of the aproach STEAM Education and its possibilities, which is fundamental for them to be able to plan and execute such pedagogical experiences. Given this, the following research question was formulated: What features should be present in a framework to assist teachers in developing STEAM practices based on the BNCC competencies? To answer this question, this research has as a general objective: To develop a conceptual framework to assist in the planning of innovative practices based on the STEAM Education based on the BNCC competencies. To achieve this goal, the following specifics were outlined: i) identify which BNCC general competencies are developed in a practice with the STEAM Education; ii) design a conceptual framework to guide the preparation of a project with STEAM Education; and iii) evaluate the framework and its potential from the teachers' point of view. This research has as theoretical foundation authors who study the following conceptual axes: competencies and abilities of the BNCC, educational practices based on the STEAM Education and conceptual frameworks. As methodological procedures, Design-Based Research will be used, a research method focused on solving real-world problems with the development of a product, evaluated and re-evaluated in a set of redesign cycles. Participants in this research will be, primarily, high school teachers from Natal. The participants' reports, analysis of the projects produced and observation of the teachers' training process will be used to analyze the research data. Finally, it is expected that the framework contributes to the development of teachers' practices with the STEAM Education and that this reflects on the students, providing more significant learning experiences and the development of competencies.
