SUMMARY:

Students of the generation of digital natives demands a fun and engaging learning format that approaches to the reality that digital technologies promote, such as the rapid exchange of information, access to content on demand and non-linear and progressive learning. Nevertheless, it is clear that traditional teaching methods are still prevalent in schools, despite the fact that educators are increasingly looking for ways to engage their students through the use of technologies. With the constant growth of the games industry in Brazil and all over the world, digital games have proven to be one of the most used technologies, being part of the students' routine. Digital Educational Games, in particular, are already considered an effective teaching strategy. However, many of them are considered boring by students, as they are focused only on the pedagogical context, neglecting the emotional context that makes them interesting to the players. Thus, there is a need to promote the quality of games from their conception, combining entertainment with education. Faced with this reality, conceptual frameworks that assist in the process of developing digital educational games, such as PlayEduc, are inserted, but still have theoretical and practical limitations that harm the validity of their use. Hence, the objective of this work is to propose an evolution of PlayEduc based on three main pillars: Entertainment (Psychology), Design and Education (Pedagogy). The framework helps designers and researchers to develop digital educational games that add essential elements of each of the points mentioned, creating games that combine fun and educational content. The validation of the proposal was carried out in the following situations: (1) in the development of small digital educational games in the context of an undergraduate discipline on the theme of the Development of Digital Educational Games; and (2) the production of a medium-sized digital educational game, focusing on the teaching of mathematics.
