SUMMARY:

Currently, polymeric membranes are widely used in industry in gas separation,
filtration, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis processes due to their many
advantages, among which one that stands out is the ability to separate substances
that conventional filters cannot retain. The performance and quality of a membrane
in use is completely influenced by its morphology. Thus, specific applications require
different morphologies. There are numerous techniques for the preparation of
polymeric films for use in membranes, among them, the phase inversion method
stands out. Given the above, this work aims to obtain asymmetric polymeric
membranes from nanocomposites of Polyethersulfone and clay, in the proportion of
3 and 5% by weight, using the technique of phase inversion by immersion. The
nanofiller used as an additive is Brasgel PA – MMT clay, in powder form, the solvent
used in the production was (NMP). Characterizations such as SEM, XRD and contact
angle were performed, which showed through their results that the incorporation of
clay as a filler, altered the morphology, consequently generated improvements in its
specific properties such as: increase of membrane hydrophilicity, reduction of
incrustation formations and consequently, increase of its useful life.
