SUMMARY:

The use of waste from industrial processes has been growing substantially motivated by the environmental concern arising from the storage of these products and their consequences for human health and the planet. The residue of cast iron, produced by machining processes, is among the types of materials potentially harmful to human health, and consequently among those that cause environmental concern. The composite of polyester resin matrix and cast iron residue powder was be obtained and studied. The four composite configurations were defined as a function of the maximum residue load experienced in the process of obtaining the proposed composite. The configurations 0RPF, 50RPF, 100RPF and 150RPF were tested. The amounts of RPF were relative to those of the polyester matrix resin. All the formulations tested presented viability of processing. Test specimens were fabricated for the characterization tests of the proposed composite.
