SUMMARY:

The constant evolution of technology has brought about the need for the production and development of new materials with the intention of covering increasingly specific service conditions. In this sense, laminated composites emerged to attend these conditions, making their indispensable in the aeronautical, aerospace industry, among others. The Finite Element Method was adopted in this work to perform the tensile test for the evaluation of the mechanical behavior of the hybrid composite material of carbon fiber/glass. Test specimens of the composite produced with fiber orientation angles (0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°) were simulated with and without central hole, in order to also verify the influence of the stress concentration on the specimens. To evaluate the influence of the stress-concentrating factor, the residual resistance (RS) of this material was studied. The Hashin failure criterion was adopted in the analysis of this hybrid composite in order to study its failure processes. Next, the region near the hole was also analyzed in order to study the stress gradient.The maximum normal stresses (Smax) obtained numerically were compared with the experimental data found in the literature. Finally, the results showed that the numerical implementation of the Hashin Criterion was able to adequately represent the stress distribution behavior in the hole region.
