SUMMARY:

The processes for obtaining and characterizing composites with resin (R) polyester and cement filler (C) were studied. The composites were defined by the mass ratio between cement and resin, 1.0R + 0.25C, 1.0R + 0.50C, 1.0R + 0.75C and 1.0R + 1.0C and the manufacturing method used was molding closed by cold wet compression. Such composites were characterized by the determination of their mechanical, thermal properties, density, water absorption and aging. The most economically viable composite was 1.0R + 1.0C. It was found that the cement had a filling load function, since all composites had lower mechanical strength than the matrix, with a proportional decrease with the increase of the cement powder, with a 50% loss in traction, 78% in flexion and 11, 54% without impact, to 1.0R + 1.0C. As applicability of the composite material produced, a 1.5 m2 table and a bench with C4 (1.0R + 1.0C) were manufactured. The cost of manufacturing the artificial stone of the table was less than that of marble or granite, which demonstrated the economic viability of applying the composites.
