SUMMARY:

Wing rock is an oscillatory phenomenon that can occur in airfoils with an increase in the angle of attack, due to effects such as the release of vortices that produce asymmetries in the external flow. This phenomenon produces an undesirable oscillation in aircraft. This work aims to study the frequency of wing rock oscillation on flat rectangular plates with different aspect ratios. Unidirectional aluminum and carbon fiber composite plates oriented at 45 ° with respect to the air flow direction were tested. The elastic oscillations and deformations were measured at different angles of attack under a low Reynolds flow. The results obtained for composite plates with 45 ° oriented fibers were compared with those obtained with aluminum plates.
