RESUMO:

The present study aims to evaluate the uncertainties associated with a measuring machine for a glossmeter produced in laboratory, so that it can be used in future scientific research. A typical application to be considered is obtaining the spatial distribution of gloss over porcelain ceramic tiles, where the level of surface finish is the main quality criterion of polished products. For this purpose, the uncertainty assessment methods established by the ISO-GUM guide will be applied. The gloss measurement system to be evaluated consists of a commercial gloss measurement equipment, known as the Zehnter glossmeter, model ZGM1120, and besides admitting as a source of uncertainty the glossmeter repeatability itself, a simulation was performed. Considering positioning error as the main source of uncertainty, once each measurement cycle the sensor is repositioned, and the effective measurement area of the device is slightly changed. It was assumed as plots of the positioning error the orthogonal components X and Y, of the table labor plane, and also a rotation component along the Z axis, orthogonal to the table plane. Once the machine's levels of accuracy and reliability are obtained, the results generated by it will be duly accompanied by a portion of uncertainty, characterizing a continuous range of values within which it is believed to contain the true value of the measured quantity. The width of this range directly represents the quality of the measuring system as a whole and therefore should be disclosed along with all results provided by the machine in question, allowing further studies performed with the machine to be validated in a standardized manner.
