SUMMARY:

The squirrel-cage induction generator is a robust and low-cost alternative to variable speed wind energy conversion systems. For this type of generator, direct torque control, control guided by the statistical field, control guided by the rotoric field, slip control of the statistical flow and slide control of the rotoric flow are typically used for tracking point maximum power captured by the turbine. The slip control of the statistical flow and the direct torque control have simple schemes, with fast dynamic responses, but do not have current controllers. On the other hand, the sliding control of the rotor flow, the control oriented by the statistical field and the control guided by the rotor field have current controllers, but offer greater complexity in the control design. The objective of this work is to define the most adequate control strategy through the evaluation of five performance indices: maximum power point tracking, total harmonic distortion, starting current, ability to operate always providing active power and dynamic response. Simulations will be carried out in order to analyze the performance of the control strategies and a comparison is made between these control strategies in order to find the most suitable for these performance indexes.
Partial tests were performed with sliding control of the statistical flow, control oriented by the statistical field and control oriented by the rotational field. Among these, the control guided by the statistical field showed better point tracking of maximum power, starting current and dynamic response. The other control strategies, as well as the inclusion of the other performance indexes, will be considered and included in the evaluation until the end of the work.
