RESUMO:

Maxwell’s equations can be used in geophysics for conductivity/resistivity imaging purposes, and also to identify and characterize geological features. They are partial differential equations that can be solved numerically through the spectral element method, which offers unique advantages when it comes to parallel processing. We propose to extend the Escript open-source software platform so that it can solve Maxwell’s equations over complex domains using triangles and tetrahedrons in unstructured 2D and 3D meshes. We show how Escript works, and preliminary work is presented regarding specialized domain implementations, a technique that may be applied to specific problems to compute solutions with improved accuracy, stability and performance.
