RESUMO:

Growing research into wireless technology in modern society requires the construction of increasingly smaller and more sophisticated microwave integrated circuits. In this sense, the microstrip antennas stand out due to their reduced sizes and to be used in several applications. Although microstrip antennas have some advantages such as low cost, light weight, its physical size is large at low frequencies of microwave with the need of reducing its dimensions. In order to adapt the planar microstrip antennas to the small spaces available, miniaturization techniques have been studied. To achieve a satisfactory antenna miniaturization it is necessary to reduce its dimensions without compromising its irradiation characteristics. Accordingly, recent research shows the use of multiple antennas miniaturization techniques in the telecommunications area for analysis of new applications, as well as the optimization of existing applications, seeking to reduce dimensions and better parameters at the reception and/or signal transmission. In this context, the present work has as objective to obtain smaller devices maintaining the radiation properties of microstrip antennas with the use of two techniques of miniaturization, ground plane truncation and the Uniplanar Compact - Photonic Band Gap (UC-PBG), based in modifications in the standard antenna structures. The validation of the results provided by the simulations and measurements will be carried out based on the construction of antenna prototypes, aiming a good agreement between the simulated and measured values.
