SUMMARY:

The self-learning of puerperal women, through access to content based on scientific evidence on ways to improve sleep in the postpartum period, can be one of the strategies for preventing sleep deprivation and associated problems. Currently, the use of mobile technologies stands out (smartphones, tablets, notebooks, E-readers, among others) to access content that facilitates self-learning. Thus, the objective of this study was to build and validate an educational mobile app called "Postpartum Sleep" for mobile devices. The study was carried out in three stages: 1) bibliographic review; 2) construction the application; and 3) validation of the content, appearance and usability of the app. The educational content available in the application comes from articles from the last ten years obtained through an integrative bibliographic search, using PubMed electronic databases and other important references. The search terms included the Descriptors in Health Sciences - DeCS: sleep, postpartum, sleep deprivation and sleep disturbance. Software development programs (SDK) for Android devices were used to build the mobile app. The mobile app was developed with Javascript language for offline use on smartphones and tablets. This elaboration stage followed adapted co-design methodology of Millard. Content and appearance validation was performed by five judges with bexperience in Human Chronobiology and at least a master's degree, by calculating the Content Validation Index (CVI) obtained. Also at this stage, the usability assessment was carried out using the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire, completed by the target audience of 36 postpartum women from the Ana Bezerra University Hospital (HUAB), after a week of using the mobile app. The mobile app culminated in 19 screens, with the initial “Menu” screen consisting of four domains entitled (1) Importance of good quality sleep; (2) Postpartum sleep; (3) Adequate postpartum sleep; and (4) Postpartum women: strategies to improve sleep. Most judges who participated in content and appearance validation were biologists with teaching experience in Chronobiology and Sleep, aged between 35 and 45 years. The content evaluation index (CVI) showed 100% agreement on all items, while the appearance evaluation ranged between 80% and 100%, denoting the performance of adjustments. The profile of the puerperal women who participated in the usability validation stage of the application pointed to a prevalence of normal delivery, high school education and multiparous. The System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire obtained a score greater than 75 points, being considered good and acceptable. Thus, the mobile app "Sono postapartum" can be considered a tool of great potential for use in teaching-learning on subjects related to aspects of sleep for puerperal women, assuring developers of its applicability and availability on digital platforms in a way safe and reliable.
