SUMMARY:

The use of educational material, objective and simplified, allows a better understanding and reception of consultations with postpartum women, facilitates understanding and objective knowledge of them. Through educational materials, self-care can be encouraged, therefore, it is relevant to the health of women and babies. The main objective is: To develop an educational material to guide maternal self-care in the postpartum period. And as specific objectives: Build a literature review on the main maternal care in the postpartum period; Systematize the levels of scientific evidence on the importance of providing maternal care in the postpartum period; Build a methodology for creating educational material for postpartum maternal care and Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and guidelines on postpartum maternal care. The research took place in two stages, the first referring to an integrative literature review, which gathered 9 publications on the topic, using the period from 2016 to 2021, from the databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS); Online Scientific Electronic Library (SciELO); Online Search System; Medical Literature Review (MEDLINE/PUBMED); Web Of Science and Google Scholar. The results were organized into three topics: 1- Characteristics of scientific publications; 2- Methodological findings and level of evidence and 3 - Maternal self-care in the postpartum period in the light of educational materials. Then, the construction of the booklet took place, in which five phases were established, which needed to be followed correctly, and in sequence, which were: 1. Situational assessment, 2. Bibliographic survey, 3. Selection and recording of the researched material, 4. Textual elaboration and 5. Construction of illustrations. It is expected that the booklet will effectively contribute to maternal self-care, through the use of various educational materials.
