SUMMARY:

Burnout Syndrome (SB) is defined as a psychological syndrome resulting from chronic stress at work. BS is characterized by Emotional Wear (DE), Depersonalization (DP) and reduced Personal Achievement (PR) with negative consequences at the individual, professional, family and social levels. The aim of this study was to verify the prevalence of Burnout syndrome in Nursing professionals who work at the ICU / HRTFF - Caicó / RN, as well as to investigate associations with demographic, occupational, psychosocial and health variables, to characterize the sociodemographic profile of the professionals. The evaluated population was composed of nursing professionals (technicians and nurses) who developed their activities in the ICU. This was a cross-sectional, observational and descriptive epidemiological study with a quantitative approach. Two instruments were used for data collection, both self-applicable: Maslach's Burnout Inventory and a questionnaire prepared by the researcher. To verify the association between the independent variables (demographic, occupational, psychosocial and health data) and the dependent (Burnout Syndrome), Pearson's Chi-square independence test was used. A p value <0.05 was adopted, with a significance level of 5% and a confidence interval of 95%. Among the main results, on average, the total sum of dimensions was 61.50 points. According to the criteria for the diagnosis of Burnout, 9.4% (03 professionals) are affected by the disease and 90.6% of professionals are not (29 professionals). The mean / median of Burnout was significantly higher in professionals who had higher education or more (p-value: 0.018) and who do not use medications frequently (p-value: 0.006). We observed that 03 nursing professionals were affected by the disease, demonstrating that one should pay attention to the factors that may be causing stress and seek ways to minimize them.
