SUMMARY:

In Brazil, the birth process is in a scenario of medicalization and hospitalization, with the challenge of reducing maternal, perinatal and infant morbidity and mortality for public health. However, there have been significant advances since the 1990s in public health policies in the Ministry of Health, which aim to rescue normal childbirth, with more humanized attention, respect for the physiology of the natural process, without unnecessary interventions, with qualified and dignified assistance, empowering women. In Caicó, interior of Rio Grande do Norte, the first class of the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Maternal and Child Health began in 2018, with internships taken at Hospital do Seridó. The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), through the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences (EMCM) annually offers 12 places, including two places for each of the following professions: Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Psychology and Social Work. The present study has the general objective of: Understanding the importance of the Maternal and Child Multiprofessional Residence/EMCM/UFRN in assisting women during the normal delivery process at Hospital do Seridó in Caicó-RN. Its specific objectives are: Characterize the study sample sociodemographically; Describe the routine of labor, delivery and postpartum care at Hospital do Seridó; Understand what are the contributions of the Multiprofessional Maternal and Child Residence in the natural trajectory of birth; Identify the limits to good delivery and birth care practices. This is an exploratory-descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research was carried out in the maternity ward of Hospital do Seridó, belonging to the municipality of Caicó, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Semi-structured questionnaires were applied to preceptors, residency students (R2) and puerperal women of normal birth. As contributions brought by the insertion of the Multiprofessional Residence in the HS, we have the implementation of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief during midwifery, the multiprofessional visits and shared discharge for guidance of these women during hospitalization. When labor occurs, at that moment the residents work with non-pharmacological methods of pain relief, helping these pregnant women to have a normal humanized delivery and be the protagonist of the event. The residents implemented the use of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief, such as: bobath ball, backrest or ling bar, massages, warm bath, aromatherapy, chromotherapy, music therapy, breathing exercises and pelvic mobility. As barriers, there is the need for training of professionals, in addition to infrastructure problems, lack of materials and equipment, such as: PPP rooms, air-conditioned environments, computerization, etc., which makes it difficult to manage good practices at work delivery. It is necessary to invest in human and material resources, and a greater management commitment to this very important service, not only for Caicó, but for the population of the Seridó region who receive obstetric assistance through the Seridó Hospital.
