SUMMARY:

Introduction: Given the scarcity of health measurement instruments in the context of asthma self-management, it becomes necessary to develop tools that can assist Brazilian asthmatics in managing their own health condition. Objectives: This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and assess the psychometric properties of the Asthma Self-Management Questionnaire (ASMQ) for the Brazilian population. Methods: This is a methodological exploratory and psychometric study in which international guidelines were used as a guide for the development and execution of the entire protocol. For the instrument translation phase, the Delphi Technique was used, involving a Multidisciplinary Committee of Experts. Additionally, a pre-test stage was conducted for cross-cultural adaptation, using a questionnaire applied to patients meeting eligibility criteria. Regarding the psychometric analysis of the ASMQ, construct properties were measured through the application of the Asthma Self-Management Questionnaire (ASMQ), Asthma Control Test (ACT), Standardized Activities Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ(S)), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), as well as socio-economic, clinical-epidemiological, and sociodemographic evaluations. Content validity, reliability, construct validity, convergent validity, divergent validity, and concurrent validity of the ASMQ will be analyzed. Preliminary results: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the ASMQ into Brazilian Portuguese were successfully completed, achieving a Content Validity Index (CVI) greater than or equal to 0.80 for all items of the instrument, ensuring its safety and reliability. Additionally, the present study is ongoing, focusing on the protocol development for the psychometric analysis of the ASMQ.
