RESUMO:

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in the newborn is conceptualized as Health Care-Related Infection associated with the use of mechanical ventilation for more than two days or detection of infection after 24 hours of therapy discontinuation. Among the outcomes of ventilator-associated pneumonia are prolonged hospitalization, increased care costs, and death. The incidence of Healthcare-Related Infections in neonates is known to be related to birth weight, use of central venous catheter and time to mechanical ventilation. Currently, technological advances have led to increased survival of premature newborns, however, this technological apparatus has been associated with the occurrence of an adverse event related to care such as Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia, for example. Thus, the prevention of Health Care-Related Infections is of fundamental importance and not just their treatment or control, where adequate care for the newborn has been one of the challenges to reduce child mortality rates in our country, which still high. In this context, this research aims to collectively build a care guide in the care, supervision, material forecasting and educational dimensions for the prevention of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in newborns. It is a qualitative research of the convergent care type. This research design demands the involvement of the researcher in everyday situations during care simultaneously the research actions. The study scenario will be a neonatal intensive care unit of a maternity school, attended by nurses and technicians and nursing. Data collection will be performed through three stages: verification of nursing knowledge and practices, participant observation of care and focus group. Data will be organized using qualitative analysis software. To support the analysis will be used the content analysis proposed by Minayo (1994). The results of this research are expected to contribute to the reduction of the incidence of mechanical ventilation-associated pneumonia in newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit, as well as the time of use of mechanical ventilation and length of stay, promoting standardization of actions. through care guides, implementing and evaluating qualified and scientifically based care. Standardized safe practices should reflect on the quality of patient care and safety, providing reduction of this adverse event, pneumonia, and contribute to advancing the state of the art.
