The Associate Graduate Program in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (in the Portuguese initials, PPgFon/UFPB/UFRN/UNCISAL) stems from an original association between two higher education institutions in 2017: the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), and Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). In 2020, a third higher education institution was added: State University of Health Sciences of Alagoas (UNCISAL). It offers the master’s program in academic degree, and it has one concentration area, “Functional aspects and Rehabilitation in Speech Therapy” with two lines of research: “Voice and orofacial functions: functional aspects and rehabilitation foundations”, and “Development and rehabilitation of hearing and language”. PPgFon/UFPB/UFRN’s target audience is the holders of an undergraduate diploma in Speech Therapy and its objective is to train human resources to a qualified work in the higher education practice, in the professional operations and research activities related to the functional aspects and the components of the rehabilitation process in Speech Therapy. Besides, the program covers, as specific goals, to qualify human resources for the planning, development, and execution of activities related to higher, professional, and research education; to contribute to the formation of professionals apt to produce scientific evidence related to the functionality and rehabilitation in Speech Therapy, considering the expansion, promotion, applicability of technological scientific and development knowledge to the program’s concentration area; to encourage the qualification and update of human resources related to Speech Therapy in what concerns their domain of strategies for their professional work and teaching and research, relevant to the academic, scientific, and technological development in the Northeast of Brazil. It is expected that the professional will be trained by the program to be able to begin or to improve their practice in higher education teaching; to apply the knowledge learned to the professional practice, to plan, develop, and execute research projects related to the relevant demands in the academic, scientific, clinical, or social scope; to propose didactical resources and technological innovations that contribute to the academic, scientific, and support progress in the program’s concentration area; to elaborate and disclose scientific communications with methodological rigor and social and technical-scientific impact.
