Presentation

The purpose of the Graduate Program in Innovation in Educational Technologies (PPgITE) is to foster the integration of digital technologies in the dynamics of the pedagogical actions in educational institutions, investigating, experimenting and implementing new ways of teaching and learning, going beyond formal spaces of Education. To this end, it aims to provide experiences to educational professionals so that they acquire digital educational resources and diversify their teaching strategies with the purpose of constantly rebuilding themselves through the experimentation and evaluation of new pedagogical and educational practices.

The main idea is to strengthen the education professionals in facing the challenges posed by their daily work, with an understanding that the construction and acquisition of knowledge are enhanced through a participatory and meaningful learning process that enables all those involved to see themselves and act as authors of knowledge, turning classrooms into spaces of discussions, research, discoveries and not an amorphous environment, of mere repetition and reproduction of ideas, concepts and prejudices.

Therefore, it aims to create a new culture of innovation in education in educational institutions through research and development of methodologies, strategies and tools adapted to each problem situation, with a view to transferring the effects of academic productivity to society. For this reason, it is in line with national public policies directed to innovation and the democratization of education, being strongly and broadly based on the Education Development Plan (PDE) of the Ministry of Education (MEC), on the National Education Plan (PNE), on the Rio Grande do Norte State Education Plan (PEE-RN), and on the Municipal Education Plan of the City of Natal (PME-Natal), which point to a need to expand the number of education professionals with stricto sensu graduate degrees e show the importance of these professionals working in Basic Education and Higher Education.

The PPgITE is thus aligned with the objectives of the Digital Metropolis Institute and of UFRN to foster and develop innovative solutions in education, promoting a greater interaction with Institutions of Basic Education and Higher Education, of the public and private sector, and Secretariats of Education of the Municipalities and of the State, in conducting research and development projects in the area of Educational Technologies.

It offers the Professional Master's Degree in Innovation in Educational Technologies (MPITE) course, which includes two lines of research: (1) Development of Educational Technologies; and (2) Educational Practices with Digital Technologies.

The line of research in “Development of Educational Technologies” is geared towards the development of methodologies and educational tools involving computer systems. It is based on the idea of constructing learning environments that enable and support the active involvement of the learner in performing contextualized tasks that provide means for creating and manipulating artifacts. It therefore enables the development of projects for the construction of technological products and innovations, such as didactic materials, educational software, interaction and interactivity platforms, virtual teaching-learning environments, as well as reflective proposals of diversified resources and activities for integration of educational modalities.

The line of research in “Educational Practices with Digital Technologies” aims to develop theoretical and practical potential in terms of the application of educational technologies in the teaching-learning process, considering the learner an active agent in the construction of their own knowledge. It is based on the cognitivist view that has a strong concern with the learning process in which the learner constructs representations through their interaction with reality and/or with their peers. It enables, therefore, the experimentation and evaluation of pedagogical practices with the use of technology, focusing on the learner and on the individual and collective construction of meanings, in addition to an emphasis on the control of the learning process and on the skills and competencies developed in it.
