Presentation

The teaching-learning of Mathematics in the early years of elementary school has a relevant strategic role for the development of logical thinking and for the structuring of the student's cognitive processes. However, as an example, data from the 2019 Prova Brasil show that only 25% of Potiguar students enrolled in this stage of education demonstrated adequate learning in this important subject. In view of this and aiming to improve the teaching of mathematics, this course aims to enable a training environment where skills and abilities to reason, represent, communicate and argue mathematically will be worked on, in order to favor the establishment of conjectures, formulation and solving problems in a variety of contexts using concepts, procedures, facts and mathematical tools. These concepts can enrich the teacher's classes, aiming for excellence in the teaching of Mathematics. For this, the course is structured in a variety of disciplines that involve theoretical and methodological deepening in the five themes proposed by the BNCC for the initial years of Elementary School (Numbers, Algebra, Geometry, Quantities and Measures, Probability and Statistics), in addition to address issues of scientific methodology, cognitive processes and teaching strategies that involve information technologies, thus contributing to the continuing education of mathematics teachers.
