SUMMARY:

This research is predominantly qualitative, characterized by an exploratory approach, and focuses on teaching a geometry topic. The participants are students regularly enrolled in the 7th year of Elementary School at a state school in Rio Grande do Norte, located in the north of Natal. The theoretical framework that underpins the study is Objectification Theory (OT), a sociocultural teaching and learning perspective. The objective is to conduct an investigation into the ways and means by which OT can support the teaching and learning of geometry based on the use of drawing instruments, understood as cultural artifacts. To achieve this purpose, geometric construction tasks will be developed, which will be carried out by small groups of students and teacher through collaboration, discussions and reflections. The intention is to provide students with a more ethical, critical and reflective learning environment. Data collection will be carried out through video and audio recording during the execution of the tasks, with analysis based on a semiotic and multimodal approach. The educational product consists of a text with recommendations on the use of drawing material in geometry classes. We hope that the activity contributes to the teaching and learning of geometry, and to the formation of students as ethical, critical and reflective subjects.
