SUMMARY:

The socio-communicative, cognitive and sensory demands of students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are not always considered in the implementation of the regular curriculum. In the case of the Science curricular component, this tendency is attributed to limitations that many of these students present in transposing scientific language into everyday life, which requires the understanding of analogies, metaphors and abstract concepts contained in scientific texts and the gaps in the field of teacher training. A curriculum with a thematic approach can socially and historically contextualize the didactic development and learning of concepts and make the content more meaningful for students in the Final Years of Elementary School through dialogue and problematization of situations that arise from their own realities.
Therefore, we believe that an approach based on themes that emerge from the students' reality, problematizing the interrelationships of science, technology and society, favors the contextualized learning of Natural Sciences concepts. Science Education must be aimed at training critical and reflective subjects, preparing for action and social participation. To this end, in this dissertation, we propose to investigate how the Freirian Thematic Approach, the assumptions of the field of studies Science, Technology and Society and the guidelines of Universal Design for Learning can be used to construct programmatic content for the discipline of Sciences in a regular class in the 7th year of Elementary School, in a private school in the city of Ceará-Mirim/RN. Using a qualitative approach, in Freirean Thematic Research we use data collection, observation, document analysis and semi-structured interviews.

From this investigation, socio-environmental vulnerabilities emerged as a generating theme. Based on the ITF and the generating theme, we developed as an educational product a Multistrategic Didactic Unit for the contextualized teaching of the concepts of the greenhouse effect, ozone layer and atmospheric changes. To analyze the results, we used Discursive Textual Analysis. The speech of the students during the ITF refers to a concern with the socio-environmental vulnerabilities resulting from the burning of sugarcane straw by the sugarcane agroindustry installed in the municipality, which led us to build an action regarding a policy municipal public policy that directly affects the school community, the Municipal Environmental Plan. The application of the educational product will take place in November and December 2023.
