SUMMARY:

Studies in the area of Gender and Nature of Science have been widely disseminated in recent decades in science education. In this research, an investigation was carried out on conceptions of gender and the nature of science with undergraduate students of Chemistry and pioneer professors from the Institute of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Assuming that Science/Chemistry Teaching can promote discussions of this nature, it is relevant to reach Basic Education discussions and reflections on the views of teachers and students on gender and the nature of science. In this direction, as an Educational Product, a training workshop was created for teachers, divided into three stages, with the aim of contributing to the teaching of chemistry in Basic Education classes. The locus of application/carrying out of the workshop were classes of chemistry undergraduates from the fifth period at UFRN through the Google Meet platform. The themes discussed were about “gender and science”, “invisibility of women in science”, “women in the Nobel Prize in Chemistry” and “biographies of women scientists”. For that, activities were carried out to read articles, research on the themes on the internet and discussions in virtual classrooms, accounting for 12 hours of workshop. The work methodology was qualitative and used questionnaires, field diary and observations as data collection instruments. These same instruments, added to semi-structured interviews, from the perspective of the biographical method, were used in the research with pioneer professors from the Institute of Chemistry. The results obtained reflect the importance and need to build discussions on the themes of gender and nature of science with undergraduates, future teachers and, consequently, with students of Basic Education. There are training gaps in this regard, as the history of science that emphasizes gender relations and the appreciation of women's work and discusses the social and historical nature of knowledge construction is not part of Higher Education or Basic Education curricula.
