SUMMARY:

Variation is one of the fundamental ideas of mathematics suggested by the Common National Curriculum Base for High School (BNCC, 2018), which guides the construction of school curricula, specifically the thematic unit of algebra. This research aims to contribute to the formation of variational thinking in high school students through the construction of tasks focused on this fundamental idea of mathematics. Thus, part of our hypotheses is to consider that one of the deficiencies in the appropriation of concepts in school mathematics may be associated with the incipient approach that students have with the idea of variation during their school career, a situation that we have been corroborating with research carried out on the teaching mathematics where this concept does not occupy an important place in most teaching proposals. Thus, the constitutive activities of the Educational Product, the result of this research, seek to answer the following question: what contributions does the fundamental idea of variation offer to the formation of concepts in school mathematics? For this purpose, task proposals are constructed, in the form of Teaching Guiding Activities (AOE), which, according to Moura (2016) constitute the stages of organizing the pedagogical activity, in addition to serving as a potential tool for the analysis of learning in teaching proposals , thus constituting the main theoretical and methodological framework of this research. We classify this research as qualitative in nature since, among other characteristics, it has a descriptive character, its validation and data analysis took place in a natural context in an inductive process (FONTES, 2019). As preliminary results made possible by the first organization of the constructed data, the role of the fundamental idea of variation in critical reflective training, in the analysis and construction of mathematical models of physical and natural phenomena, as well as concepts of school mathematics such as the concept of variable, are revealed. deterministic or random, and of function, materialized in different forms of representation: analytical, numerical and graphical.
