SUMMARY:

The Teaching of Functions is present in the Basic Education Mathematics curriculum and occupies a prominent place for being transversal to other mathematical concepts that also make up the school curricula, as well as being one of the main concepts used in the study of other areas of knowledge, especially in the natural sciences. This research aims to contribute to the formation of the functional thinking of high school students from a variational perspective, because as we see in Caraça (1951) the concept of variation underlies the bases for the construction of this type of Mathematical Thinking. Likewise, variation is one of the fundamental ideas of mathematics suggested by the Common Base National Curriculum for Secondary Education (BNCC, 2018), which guides the construction of school curricula, specifically the thematic unit algebra. Thus, part of our hypotheses is to consider that one of the main deficiencies in the appropriation of the concept of function may be associated with the incipient contact that students have with the fundamental idea of variation during their school trajectory, a situation that we have corroborated through the bibliographic survey of publications. in Brazil in which this concept does not occupy an important place in most proposals for teaching function. Thus, the activities that constitute the Educational Product, the result of this research, seek to answer the following question: what contributions does variation offer to the formation of Functional Thinking, making the concept of function more meaningful for high school students? To this end, proposals for activities are constructed, in the form of Teaching Guiding Activities (AOE), which, according to Moura (2016), constitute the stages of organization of pedagogical activity, in addition to serving as a potential instrument for the analysis of learning in teaching proposals. , thus constituting the main theoretical and methodological framework of this research. We classify this research as qualitative in nature since, among other characteristics, it has a descriptive character, its corpus is in a natural context and the data analysis is limited to an inductive process (FONTES, 2019).
