The studies in the area of Education have evidenced the need for a citizen training for decision making. In this sense, social participation became necessary in the face of scientific and technological development. Based on the assumption that Chemistry Teaching should make it possible to assimilate students experiences and extend them to collective problems, discussing the problem of Electrical and Electronic Waste (E-waste) has proved to be relevant. Due to the increasing consumption of Electronic and Electrical Equipment (EEE), the environmental consequences related to its disposal have intensified. Therefore, the Science-Technology-Society Education (STS) can favor the discussion about the social, political, economic and environmental impacts linked to these artifacts, as well as to promote Environmental Education in relation to the consumption and disposal of EEE. In view of the above, a sequence of activities was developed as an educational product, which aims to contribute to the study of metal chemistry in Basic Education. The locus of the research was a group of the second grade of the public School of the Atheneu Norte Riograndense. The activities developed aim to relate the problem of E-waste to chemical concepts in a STS approach. For this purpose, activities such as reading newspapers were carried out; use of an information booklet; class on the properties, applications and risks of the metals present in the EEE, as well as E-waste was collected in said school for twenty days. The research has a qualitative nature and used as a data collection instrument a questionnaire, activity records and field diaries. The partial results indicated that the students do not recognize the E-waste and the problem regarding their disposal. The lack of knowledge of the chemical constituents in the EEE corroborates the inadequate disposal of these wastes. In view of the above, it is possible to consider the relevance of such formative moments to the realization of the Environmental Education assumptions linked to STS Education.
