RESUMO:

Recognizing that medieval Islamic mathematics has produced many names of first-rate scholars, the present research focuses on the work known as Al-kitāb al-mukhtaṣar fī ḥisāb al-jabr wal-muqābala (Book of Restoration and Balancing), popularly known such as al-Khwarizmi's Algebra, written by the eminent medieval Islamic sage, Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. Thus, the objective of this research was to make a historical-pedagogical study of al-Khwarizmi's Algebra, highlighting the contributions that it can have for Mathematics Education, especially in what concerns the formation of the mathematics teacher. This is a bibliographical and documentary research of a qualitative nature, centered on the Theory of Objectification by Luis Radford. In addition, an e-book is presented as an educational product, with the purpose of presenting to the teacher in initial and / or continued formation the character al-Khwarizmi, who lived in transition from the 8th-9th centuries AD, as well as his best known work, Algebra. Thus, we hope that this material favors the rethinking of mathematics as a science in permanent construction, thus contributing to the professional practice of teachers.
