SUMMARY:

The produced water (AP) is an effluent from the oil industry that stands out for being the by-product generated in greater quantity and for its great toxic potential. The environmental risks associated with PA can vary depending on its composition, and before being discarded or reused, it will have to undergo effective treatments in order to comply with current legislation, in view of the destination it will be given. Therefore, this work aimed to propose the treatment for AP of the offshore platform Petrobras in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte aiming at the reduction of organic compounds through the application of a heterogeneous batch Fenton system using a modified electrode with cork, whose surface was doped with iron oxide. The Heterogeneous Fenton system has emerged as an alternative to the conventional Fenton process (homogeneous), mainly due to less dependence on pH resulting in less potential to generate sludge. These systems use solid catalysts as an iron source, which, in combination with hydrogen peroxide, promote the oxidation of organic matter, alone or combined with another technique. AP was characterized by chemical analyzes such as pH, conductivity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), quantification of hydrogen peroxide and iron, as well as the amount of total suspended solids.
