SUMMARY:

During the production processes of an oil field, oil, water and gas are commonly produced simultaneously. The water that is brought to the surface together with oil and / or gas in production operations, is called produced water and is considered the largest volume effluent generated in the oil industry. The treatment of this effluent is designed mainly to remove the oil and grease content (FOG) dispersed and suspended solids, to adapt its parameters to those required by current legislation. Currently, flotation techniques are the most used for the treatment of produced water, however this method is not efficient in removing soluble oil and other contaminants present (metals, dissolved aromatic compounds). Thus, the use of processes combined with flotation is important to reduce the polluting potential of this effluent. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the use of Pachira aquatica fruit peel as a bio-absorbent to remove the oil and grease content (FOG) of the water produced in the combined biosorption / flotation process. The first stage of the research consists in the preparation of the adsorbent material, through its collection and carbonization, and in the synthesis of the produced water, followed by the characterization of both materials. Then, the biosorption / flotation tests will be performed in a flotatest, following the predetermined evaluation parameters and distributed according to the complete and central factorial planning. It is expected with this methodology to obtain an adsorbent material capable of removing FOG, as well as metals and other associated organic components, treating the water produced at levels suitable for reuse and / or disposal. In addition, it is expected to add economic value to the aquatic Pachira forest by-product, bringing economic, social and environmental gains.
