RESUMO:

As the second largest ethanol producer in the world, Brazil needs to invest in new technologies and skills training to stay in the current competitive landscape. Thus, the conversion of lignocellulosic materials, or biomass, into fermentable sugars for ethanol production has been a promising alternative to increase ethanol production, seeking to meet world demand, environmental and to avoid the use of food in this industry. The abundance of green coconut in Brazil and in many other tropical countries makes this lignocellulosic material a potential raw material for the production of second generation ethanol, as well as the use of this type of residue can lead to a reduction of the environmental impact generated. The growing worldwide interest in fungal enzymes is due to the potential of using them in various industrial applications, in addition to increasing demand for more stable, highly active and specific enzymes. The major lignocellulolytic enzymes that are produced extracellularly by filamentous fungi include manganese peroxidases, lignin peroxidases and laccases. In this way, this project aims at the use of alkaline pre-treatment and steam blast using the green coconut shell fiber to produce second generation ethanol (2G) and laccases.
